CHIN AND JAW REDUCTION / RE-CONTOURING
Chin Implant, plastic surgery of the chin called Mentoplasty, is performed to either increase or decrease the size of the chin. As in nasal surgery, we want to achieve harmony with the surrounding facial characteristics. Ideally the chin should project to a point immediately below the lower lip.
When surgery of the chin is recommended, it commonly is performed in conjunction with the Rhinoplasty procedure, all to achieve harmony with the facial features. The Chin Implant is made of a hard silastic material (the same material that is used for hip or knee joint replacement) and is placed through an incision in the skin crease under the chin. A dressing is placed on the chin for 4 to 5 days. There are minimal risks of infection, bleeding, rejection or asymmetry. Stitches are removed six days after surgery.
